Simply Art © Hand Spindles are drop spindles, and are a continuation of my many years as a visual artist. The spindles are very simple, made of maple or birch (unless noted), and each is individually hand-painted. The whorls are painted in my abstract / impressionist style with professional acrylic paints, and then sealed with four layers of varnish. Each spindle is signed and numbered on the bottom of the whorl. For those of you who didn't have a chance to purchase my abstract art (which I no longer do professionally), here is an opportunity to own one of my originals.
Each spindle is a one-of a kind piece. Christian or Christmas spindles may share a title, but each spindle is different.

| The
2007 Christmas Spindle.
With this spindle, I break from my own tradition, and start a new one. My spindles are each one-of-a-kind pieces, no two are alike. For the 2007 Christmas celebration, I break with that tradition and offer a special spindle for a new tradition. One design and limited number of spindles painted. A treasure and future heirloom. This year's design is "O Holy Night", painted in the deepest purple and ultramarine blue, a touch of cobalt, and of course, white. I have painted four "O Holy Night" spindles that are for sale. I have not yet decided whether any more will be painted. Although these spindles are the same design, being hand-painted, each is slightly different. A Note: In 2008, 2009, and 2010 I spent most of my time making one-of-a-kind Christmas Stockings and other items, and so did not issue Christmas spindles. |

The 2011 Christmas Spindle. At Christmas time, we generally think of all the people in our lives or in the world that need us, or we need them. This year, I decided to again paint some Christmas spindles. The theme is "Safe Passage", and the spindles each have two views of the beach. When I stand on the beach and look out, I wonder if the whales are safe, how are the seals, are they traveling north yet? And in past years we have had more sharks here going after the seals, newsworthy events, what is changing in our environment to have the sharks coming in closer and closer? Great Whites now common? What has changed, is it global warming? May each sea animal that passes Cape Cod have safe passage this year through the migrations that have continued for millennia. My spindles are each one-of-a-kind pieces, no two are alike. One design and limited number of spindles painted. A treasure and future heirloom. Although these spindles are the same design, being hand-painted, each is slightly different. $12.00 each plus shipping as shown above.

Below are two more spindles that I have made with Christmas in mind, but they are not "officially" my Christmas spindles. They are "Simply Plum", and were painted simply because I love the color plum! They are painted in a plum color that is slightly darker than appears in the photos, with blue and violet as well, and for the first time, I've painted the spindle shafts. |
