Simply Basic Socks (c) Toddler Sock in Crochet

Simply Art © Simply Basic Socks © Toddler Socks in Crochet Pattern

  Design (c) 2007 Laurie A. E. O'Meara

This pattern is for flat-crocheted socks that are easy to crochet in size 10 crochet thread.  Pattern is written for a toddler’s foot with a 6 inch overall  foot length.  I specifically developed this pattern for use with 2 strands of crochet thread to achieve a finer stitch, yet in a durable, child-friendly thread.  Size 10 thread allows for a finer stitch, but the nature of crochet stitches makes this a sporty, everyday sock rather than a dress-up sock.  Other sizes can be crocheted by making a few simple adjustments to the pattern.  Flat-crocheted, in this pattern, means that the sock is crocheted in one long, flat piece, and then the seams are sewn together.

Please note: The ribbing on this sock is crocheted vertically – which means that some self-striping threads will not stripe the same way as if they were knitted, and because crochet stitches do not interlock the same way knit stitches do, self-striping threads will look variegated rather than striped in the balance of the sock.    As a bonus with this pattern, a knit ribbing instruction is included so that the ribbing can be striped.

Materials Needed to complete the pattern:

  • Size C crochet hook for ribbing

  • Size E crochet hook for balance of the sock

  • Size 10 crochet thread, held two strands together, 3 ounces

  • Nylon or monofilament sewing thread

  • Darning needle

Stitch knowledge required:

Single crochet (sc) , slip stitch, decrease by single crocheting into 2 stitches, increasing by crocheting twice into the same stitch
