Simply Basic Socks © Woman's Sport Sock Pattern

Simply Art © Simply Basic Socks ©  Woman's Low Sport Sock Knitting Pattern

  Design (c) 2008 Laurie A. E. O'Meara

This pattern is for straight, single point needle, flat-knitted low-ankle-height sport socks that are easy to knit in 100% cotton thread.

These are wonderful, comfortable socks for sports or for every-day wearing.

Pattern is written for a woman’s size 7-1/2 foot, with a 9 inch circumference at the ball of the foot.  Other sizes can be knitted by making a few simple adjustments to the pattern.  As well, the height of the sock on the leg can be easily adjusted to result in a dress or knee-sock height.

As an added bonus, the adjustments for woman’s sizes 7 and 8 knit in cotton thread are included.

Flat-knitted, in this pattern, means that the sock is knitted in one long, flat piece, and then the seams are sewn together.  For this reason, self-striping threads that are meant to be knitted in rounds will not always have the stripes line up.  The pattern is meant for solid colors, variegated threads, or socks with a contrasting color in the ribbing.

Materials Needed to complete the pattern:

Size 1 straight single-point needles for ribbing

Size 3 straight single-point needles for balance of the sock

Size 10, 100% cotton crochet thread, 3 ounces (this will be held two strands together)

Nylon or monofilament sewing thread

Darning needle, safety pin to mark beginnings and ends of sections if desired

Stitch knowledge required:

Knit, purl, slip stitch for casting on, increasing knitwise, knit 2 together, binding off
