(c) Woman's Sock Knitting
Pattern
This pattern is for straight, single point needle, flat-knitted socks that are easy to knit in fingering weight (or lace weight) yarn. Yarn sold as “sock yarn” is just slightly heavier than fingering weight yarn, but can also be used with this pattern. Pattern is written for a woman’s size 7 foot, with a 9 inch circumference at the ball of the foot. Other sizes can be knitted by making a few simple adjustments to the pattern, from toddler to men’s. As an extra bonus, cast on stitch counts are included for the same sock in sport weight and worsted weight yarns for a woman’s size 7. Flat-knitted, in this
pattern, means that the sock is knitted in one long, flat piece, and then the
seams are sewn together. For this reason, self-striping yarns that are
meant to be knitted in rounds will not always have the stripes line up.
The pattern is meant for solid colors, variegated yarns, or socks with a
contrasting color in the ribbing. This is a pattern that can be used to teach new knitters or children to knit. I do not explain the individual stitch methods in the pattern, but they are the basic stitches that would be taught in a knitting class, a Senior Center, or Home Economics class. If purchasing the pattern for one of these classes or groups, up to 30 copies are allowed from one pattern purchase. The name of the group or class and a tax identification number (if applicable) is required for a "group" pattern purchase. One copy of the pattern is mailed.
