Simply Basic Socks (c) Knit Toddler Sock

Simply Art © Simply Basic Socks (c) Knitted Toddler Sock Pattern

  Design (c) 2007 Laurie A. E. O'Meara

This pattern is for straight, single point needle, flat-knitted socks that are easy to knit in fingering weight (or lace weight) yarn.  Yarn sold as “sock yarn” is just slightly heavier than fingering weight yarn, but can also be used with this pattern.  Pattern is written for a toddler’s or young child’s foot, with a 5 inch overall length to the foot.  Other sizes can be knitted by making a few simple adjustments to the pattern.

Flat-knitted, in this pattern, means that the sock is knitted in one long, flat piece, and then the seams are sewn together.  For this reason, self-striping yarns that are meant to be knitted in rounds will not always have the stripes line up.  The pattern is meant for solid colors, variegated yarns, or socks with a contrasting color in the ribbing.

Materials Needed to complete the pattern:

Size 1 straight single-point needles for ribbing

Size 2 straight single-point needles for balance of the sock

Fingering weight or sock weight yarn, 3 ounces of your choice

Nylon or monofilament sewing thread

Darning needle

Stitch knowledge required:

Knit, purl, slip stitch for casting on, increasing knitwise, knit 2 together, binding off
