201k1 hand crank

I had wanted a 201k1 for a while.  The really nice machines are sometimes out of my price range, but I did manage to find this one.  The decals on the front area of the bed and in the bed center are worn, and there are chips to the bed enamel in front of the needle area, but I like this machine.  There is just one thing that needs to be fixed.  The thread take-up spring on the tension assembly needs to be replaced.  Even with that, it sews a nice stitch and runs very smoothly.  This is currently the only one of my older hand crank or treadle machine heads that has reverse, which is a feature I like to have when piecing quilts.  My 66-14 has it, but that was originally an electric machine.  As soon as the 201k1 arrived I started piecing blocks with it for a chair cover.

It came in a very nice walnut bentwood case, but I think this machine will be used often and not stored in the case for very long at a time.  I believe the hand crank unit is a new one and not original, but I don't have a way to check that.

A fancy face plate is on this machine.

Sample stitches from the 201k hand crank are below:

Below is a darning sample I did on this machine with the Stoppax Darning Attachment :

and a ruffled sample using the low shank ruffler (#120598)

Accessories that would have come with this machine:

Accessories box (complete) # 160810 - would contain:

  • 2 felt washers (part# 8879)

  • adjustable hemmer foot (#35931)

  • hemmer foot (#120855)

  • ruffler (#120598)

  • edge stitcher (# 36865)

  • binder (#160359)

  • gathering foot (#121441)

  • tube of oil (#161133)

  • large screwdriver (#161294)

  • small screwdriver (#161295)

  • package #2020 of needles

Below are some of the low shank attachments I purchased for this machine.  This box is not complete and is marked with the number 120360 which was one of the box numbers  issued with the Singer models 66 and 99, except for the 66-1 back-clamping machine.  From left to right, starting at the top are the adjustable hemmer, the binder (with material in it), the seam guide and screw, bottom left is the tucker and on the right is the ruffler.

And below again is the low shank buttonholer (# 160506)  and box which not only fits the 201k1, but all of the low-shank Singer machines except the 66-1.
